KL or Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia, and an incredibly fun and exciting city. Every year, millions of tourist visits this city to experience the diverse cultures of the people and take in the magnificent sites that dot the city. However, similar to any destination, a little research and pre-planning before the trip can go a long way in making the trip an unforgettable one. Here are some tips that will make your trip to KL a stress-free one.

1)       Start your preparations early so that you have ample time to do your research to get the best rates and deals available. Many of the hotels have significant discounts for travelers who book their accommodation early while the price for airline tickets can also be significant lower if reservations are made well in advance of the trip. As a rule of thumb, starting your preparations 4 or 5 months before the date should be ideal.

2)        KL is visited by tourist throughout the year but there are the low months where everything is cheaper, from hotels rooms to car rentals to airline tickets. Moreover visiting during the low months means that there would not be any crowds to contend with at the major tourist sites.

3)       Book everything online. Nowadays, with the internet, it is so easy to get instant confirmation on your travel requirements. There are several websites that cater specifically for the Malaysian market such as www.expedia.com.my that has the best deals for hotels and airline tickets.

4)       There are a host of accommodation choices in the city catering to all budgets and preferences. As per normal, most hotels that are sited within the city center are generally more expensive that the ones in the suburbs. However, in recent years, there has been several backpacker hostels mushrooming within the city center itself with very decent rates.

5)       A most important factor that could possible make or break your vacation in the city is in the choice of transportation. Getting around using public transportation is pretty simple as there are plenty of taxi and buses that ply the city. However, the traffic during peak hours in the central business district can be horrendous and some taxi drivers may not want to take passengers unless they are paid extra. In order to avoid this issue, it is best to hire a private tour guide with transportation as it would minimize travelling time while getting the best out of the city.

6)       Depending on the time you have on the trip, you may want to check out several day-trips destinations outside of the city. Malacca, Unesco heritage city is only about two hours away while Cameron Highlands, a popular highland resort, is about 3 hours from KL.

KL is a beautiful city to visit and with just a little preparation you can get the best out the vacation.
